WATCH: Joker ‘Puts On A Happy Face’ In First Trailer
Warner Brothers Pictures has finally given audiences their first official trailer for Todd Phillips’ Joker.
Fans have been excited for Joaquin Phoenix’s take on the character ever since the project was first announced. Not to be confused with Jared Leto’s recent portrayal in 2017’s Suicide Squad, Joker is a standalone film that is not related to the DCEU.
This means you shouldn’t expect him to battle Wonder Woman or Aquaman anytime soon.
Joker differs from most recent comic book films. It is set in 1980s Gotham City and focuses solely on an antagonist. Phoenix stars as Arthur Fleck, a failed standup comedian who turns to crime after being rejected on stage. According to the studio, the film is an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”
Joker makes his way into cinemas on October 4, 2019. You can read a breakdown of what to expect from the film here.
