There are many reasons that make the Amazon Basin so dangerous for swimmers. First, the water is full of predators who are eagerly awaiting their next meal.

These include barracuda, piranhas, and deadly candiru. This small fish will allegedly swim up to your urinary tract and feed on your genitals before expanding like a pufferfish. If you think that sounds less than desirable, you’re going to want to give this swim a miss.
