Despite having a rocky relationship with a heartbreaking ending, when the couple wed, they looked very much in love. They tied the knot at Westminster Abbey before making their way over to Buckingham Palace for official photos with the rest of the royal family and a wedding reception. 750 million people worldwide watched on as the royal family, along with the newlyweds stood on the balcony of the palace, waving at the crowds who flocked in their thousands to get a glimpse of them.

It was a moment that went down in royal history. They never made public displays of affection, but the people’s princess was of course the one to change all of this.
In addition, in their wedding vows, Diana was the first royal bride to omit the word “obey” from her vows, something that her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, also did on their own wedding days. Prince Charles and Diana were the ones who made it acceptable for royal couples to touch each other in public. Prince William and Kate Middleton followed in their footsteps, as did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last year.
