26. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Is there a more classic American band than Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers? The Floridian band went strong from 1976-2017 and are behind some of the most ‘Americana’ anthems of the 20th century.

Hits include American Girl, Breakdown, Listen To Her Heart, and I Need To Know. The band went strong until Petty’s death in 2017. While no immediate statement was made by the remaining band members, it was decided that they would not continue.
