Throughout the years he has used many actors to express his vision, but often returns to the same actors – namely Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. Here are 3 of his movies that were nominated for, and won many awards:

1. Goodfellas (1990)

Goodfellas is a mafia movie that follows the journey of Henry Hill, played by Ray Liotta, and his rise in the mafia world. It has a stellar cast including Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, who gives a magnificent performance (and took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor).

This is a mafia movie that you can watch over and over again. Rob Lowe admitted it’s his favorite movie of all time. It won the BAFTA Award for Best Film and was nominated for a few Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

2. The Departed (2006)

The Departed is a heavy drama with heavy Hollywood hitters, such as Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, and the very beautiful Vera Farmiga.

It is a crime drama which takes place in Boston. Jack Nicholson is the Irish Mob Boss (Frank Costello) who gets Matt Damon (Colin Sullivan) to be a mole in the Massachusetts State Police Department. Simultaneously, an undercover state trooper played by Leonardo DiCaprio (William “Billy” Costigan) infiltrates Costello’s crew.

It is a brilliant film that took home four Academy Awards, including best picture and Scorsese finally took home the Academy Award for Best Director.

3. The Irishman (2019)

The Irishman is Scorsese’s latest movie that was screened on Netflix, and in certain movie houses around the world. It has an amazing cast including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale and Ray Romano.

Robert De Niro is the main protagonist, and we watch his incredible life as he murders an infinite amount of people – and somehow always gets away with it. This movie got incredible praise and has been nominated for 2020’s Academy Award for Best Picture. It just shows that Scorsese has never lost his magic touch.

No matter what Martin Scorsese touches, it turns to cinematic gold. Hopefully there will be more movies coming our way from this cinematic genius.
