Paul McCartney was visiting John Lennon at his New York apartment and they were watching Saturday Night Live together. On the show, producer Lorne Michaels jokingly said he would give the Beatles $3000 to come on the show.

While sitting at home, Lennon and McCartney almost jumped in a cab and took him up on the offer but later decided not to. It probably would have been one of the best moments in SNL history.
