Despite Home Alone 2: Lost In New York being set in Manhattan, most of the filming was done in Chicago in the winter months when all the Christmas decorations were out.

Chicago is absolutely freezing at this time of year and the production teams struggled to cope with the sub zero temperatures hitting Chicago. It was so cold that several of the cameras froze during production and they had to be taken inside to warm up before filming could continue.
