The Tosa is the only dog breed still used for legal dog fighting in Japan. These dogs are bred to fight which has made them increasingly dangerous dogs. Due to this reputation, several countries including Denmark, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany have banned breeding them.

These dogs are mistreated and abused as they are kept in cages to stay aggressive for their fights. It is a serious issue in Japan and many animal protection organizations have campaigned to ban it.
