Compared to most of the other actors who work with Marvel, Cheadle has always remained coy about his status in the franchise. James Rhodes is usually a supporting character to Tony Stark, so it’s unsure where the character can go from here or if he can hold a solo film.

In the comics, James Rhodes (War Machine) actually becomes romantically involved with Captain Marvel, so we could expect him to turn up in her sequels. We will learn more once Marvel Studios announces Phase 4.
