The Towering Inferno starred Steve McQueen and Paul Newman – two of the biggest stars at the time. Apparently, McQueen was a little bit petty when it came to the amount of screen time. He was horrified to learn Newman had 12 more lines than him.

To keep McQueen happy, screenwriters removed six lines of dialogue from Newman and split the parts evenly. That way, the two actors had the exact same amount of lines in the film.
